Keishiro Hara is a professor and the director of section for Future Design at Center for Open Innovation Research and Education, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University. He is also consulting fellow at Research Institute for Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI), Senior Fellow at The Tokyo Foundation for Policy Research, and is the member of Science Council of Japan. He was appointed as senior officer for technology policy and strategy at Manufacturing Industries Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the government of Japan, between October 2016 and March 2018. His primary research interest is sustainability science and “Future Design” which applies a new and innovative approach to incorporate the perspectives of future generations in policy and institutional design aiming to reconcile intergenerational conflicts and to realize transformation to a sustainable and low-carbon society. He holds Ph.D. in environmental studies and bachelor of urban engineering, both from The University of Tokyo.
