Introduction of Areas

In this area, we will improve the educational capability of the Graduate School of Engineering through the implementation of education for industry-academia-government co-creation, a graduate program for advanced interdisciplinary studies, recurrent education, and support for issue exploration by students. Our promotional activities are specifically as follows.

The Center for Future Innovation (CFi) offers a Graduate Program for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies comprising Environmental Innovation Design and To Connect Science and Technology to Innovation, and an educational exchange program in sustainability science with other universities.

To vitalize the future School/Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, we at CFi provide two types of support for activities that the students carry out.
1)Challenge Project for Students
We backup the activities for students to voluntarily depict their own future image through various activities and exchanges, including manufacturing (monozukuri), to gather their experiences while establishing relations with others, and to learn by experience what contributions technology can make to the university and community. Please refer to this link for more details.

2)Promotion Project for Students
We backup the activities on a long-term basis for the Challenge Project for Students that we can acknowledge the results to achieve the goal.

TechnoArena, operated by the Future Innovation Center, is a new system for research and education to create innovation and explore new innovative areas by taking advantage of research seeds from the Graduate School of Engineering and adopting a flexible structure that goes beyond the framework of a major or area of specialty and depends on problems. TechnoArena conducts research and development with a focus on basic research to societal implementation and embodies the OU Ecosystem promoted by Osaka University.

We promote the tenure track system to develop internationally excellent young human resources and support joint research between industry and universities by young scientists. Moreover, we strengthen our research capability as the Graduate School of Engineering through the introduction of the University Research Administrator (URA) and the promotion of Institutional Research (IR).

Joint research between industry and universities through the matching fund method
Aiming to realize advanced manufacturing (monozukuri) based on the results from advanced basic research, to create and vitalize a new industry in collaboration of industry and academia, and to develop young faculty members who lead the future innovation, we support joint research between companies and young faculty members in the Graduate School of Engineering. Please refer here for details.

To promote CFi’s activities as mentioned above and the educational and research activities of the Graduate School of Engineering effectively and strategically, we carry out activities to strengthen the management power as an organization, including obtaining management funding.
