Photonics & Sensing Engineering
Photonics is the science and technology dealing with the interaction of light and matter. As a fundamental technology supporting cyber-physical systems, photonics is used for various physical sensors, for low-energy lighting, communications, and information processing, for long-term data storage, for bioanalysis, and for bioimaging and sensing. Photonics is now regarded as vital to establishing an environmentally consciously, healthy, safe, and secure life, and it is already having a positive impact on people’s lives. We call this process “photonics transformation” (or PX). The goal of this group is to accelerate this transformation process to help solve global-scale problems, by actively combining and integrating photonics with different leading-edge disciplines across a broad range of areas, from basic optical science to systems that apply photonics.
